Pitkin County Library Young Adult Collection Development Policy The Young Adult Collection: Overview. The Young Adult (YA) collection currently holds approximately 3717 books, 267 books on CD, 93 playaways, 879 graphic novels and manga, and 139 video games as well as a small Spanish section consisting of 27 young adult specific titles. Covering young adult literature and adult novels with teen appeal, it is an ideal resource for high school libraries, the YA section of public libraries and anyone else who works with young adult literature collections. II. Developing a Young Adult Collection. Young adults vary greatly in maturity level, in psychological development, in physical development, and in specific educational and personal needs. Young adult library collections must offer a wide range of materials at various reading and interest levels. Designed to assist librarians with collection development, this work identifies, describes, and evaluates more than 800 significant bibliographies of children's and young adult materials. Emphasis is on print and nonprint works published from 1986 through 1996, with some earlier but still useful publications.

To award $1000 for collection development to YALSA members who represent a public library and who work directly with young adults ages 12 to 18. Up to two grants will be awarded annually.
